Professional Development
Fluency Specialty Board
- In order to maintain Board Recognized Fluency Specialist status, specialists need to complete a minimum of 4.5 (45 hours) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) over a three year period. At least 75% of these activities have to be in the area of fluency, fluency disorders or related areas such as genetics, brain imaging, or counseling. The remaining hours may be in other domains of speech-language pathology. Dr. Fosnot has been a specialist recognized by the Fluency Specialty Board. She has kept careful track of her activities through the ASHA-approved Continuing Education Registry where the courses are documented.
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Standards
- The Certification Maintenance Standards require that all certificate holders must accumulate 30 Certification Maintenance Hours (CMH) of professional development during each 3-year certification maintenance interval in order to maintain their certification (CCC-A, CCC-SLP). Dr. Fosnot has met the requirements for speech-langauge pathology.
Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board
- After license renewal in 1999 or 2000, speech-language pathologists and audiologists had to take courses to accrue 24 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) for each biennial license renewal. Licensees must take courses from Board-approved providers, and course subject matter must be related to the speech-language pathology or audiology scope of practice.
